Billing & Business Office Specialist
Job Description
Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Billing and Business Office Specialist will be responsible for managing medical billing, insurance claims, and patient account inquiries. This role blends the technical elements of billing with exceptional customer service, supporting the compassionate and friendly environment patients have come to trust. Shift information:
- Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
- Onsite
- Review and post charges for patient visits with accuracy and attention to detail
- Submit, track, and follow up on insurance claims, including appeals for denied claims
- Maintain updated patient insurance information and verify coverage and benefits
- Process prior authorizations and ensure timely sign-offs as necessary
- Post payments, reconcile accounts, and manage outstanding balances
- Interact with patients in a compassionate and upbeat manner, providing assistance with billing inquiries and resolving concerns professionally
- Minimum of 1 year of medical billing experience (ophthalmology or vision experience preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; AA or BS degree and billing/coding certification preferred
- Strong computer proficiency, including experience with medical billing software, electronic health records, and Microsoft Office; experience with Nextech programs (Practice+ and Intellechart) preferred but not required
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently
- Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills with a patient-first mindset
