West Sound Workforce is assisting a well-established retail supplier on Vashon Island in their search for a Feed Department Buyer I. Reporting to the Store Manager, the Feed Buyer will manage purchasing and merchandising for the Farm & Feed department, leveraging industry knowledge, strong customer service instincts, and vendor relationship skills to meet the needs of a loyal rural customer base.

Shift information:

Full time, retail hours
Schedules vary, 8-hour shifts, may include weekends

What you will do as Feed Department Buyer I:

Select and purchase feed and agricultural products aligned with customer needs and company goals
Build and maintain supplier relationships; negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery
Monitor inventory levels and forecast demand to ensure optimal stock turnover
Track and manage departmental financial metrics, including sales, margins, and vendor support
Stay informed on customer preferences, seasonal trends, and industry developments

What we are looking for:

Familiarity with farm, ranch, or animal feed products—whether through work experience, personal involvement, or a strong interest in the industry
Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with vendors, coworkers, and customers
Comfortable reviewing sales numbers, seasonal trends, and stock levels to support purchasing decisions
Confident negotiating pricing and terms, or eager to grow into that responsibility
Proficient using a computer for tasks such as emailing, researching, data entry, and navigating inventory or point-of-sale systems
Organized and adaptable, able to juggle multiple priorities in a busy retail setting
